Ramon Santiago

My dear friend Ramon Santiago with his work pictured to the right, was a great inspiration to me in my early painting career. I wanted to take a moment to showcase some of his work and perhaps one of my most favorite pieces Cirk. Ramon was a very humble man and eager to help me become a great painter.
Below, is a side-by-side comparison to include my work which was inspired with a similar title, Cyrk.

Thank you.

Ducret School of Art: Painting and Figure Drawing Class

It is a great honor to now be teaching a fantastic group of students at DuCret School of Art is South Plainfield, NJ.  Our 15 week spring semester focuses upon academic figure drawing and traditional oil painting techniques.

The students have the opportunity to draw for the first half of the semester from life and also from plaster drawing casts (seen above) while traditional methods are explored.  As the students evolve and gain an understanding of form and anatomy, the class continues with a focus upon oil painting, color mixing, and academic techniques.    The painting and figure drawing class is a Thursday evening time slot from 7-9:30 and new students are welcome to join.  Thank you.

It is with great pleasure that I share another great opportunity to be published in International Artist Magazine.  This most recent article featured an article I wrote with respect to painting on aluminum traffic signs.   The recent exploration of a new surface has been wonderful and I’ve fully enjoyed the experience.  The attached issue chronicled the process of painting a new work entitled Danger High Voltage as I shared with readers my approach to portrait painting.  Thank you.

Michael Harding Artist Oil Colours

Many people have asked me about what paints I use to complete my portraits and therefore wanted to take a moment to share with my audience the wonderful oil paint which I have been using in my studio.  It is the Michael Harding Artist Oil Colours and they are hand-made paints from the UK.  The colors are vivid and they use only the highest quality pigments in their paint.  The quality of the color is second to none and I am able to get the performance I need out of these oil paints.  Seen above is a sample of some of my recent paints delivered.  They are available through Jerry’s Artarama and also Amazon.com.

Portrait Painter Billy Seccombe: "Main Street Inspiration"

This is a fairly recent article written by Emily Everson of the Metuchen Life magazine.  She is a wonderful writer/editor who I had the opportunity of meeting earlier last year at a show of mine.  I am thrilled to be the center feature for the January issue in which the magazine features a spread on my paintings, technical approach and an inside look at my studio.  Thank you to those folks at the magazine for giving me such great press.  It is very much appreciated.

Dacia Gallery proudly presents “Looking In” a Solo Exhibition by Billy Seccombe. By taking a unique approach to oil painting in an academic manner Seccombe’s work captures a classical realism with particular attention to rendering the figure. His latest paintings seek a poetic aesthetic and an ethereal quality, which often depicts a figure with decorative elements, text, and thick impasto paint. By letting the paint flow and careful not to overwork the canvas, he creates bold brush strokes that convey a sense of life and energy in his subjects and an intimacy in his models. “My work derives a sense of comfort and of warmth while employing elemental accents such as patterning and props.” A graduate of Syracuse University with a BFA in illustration, Seccombe grew up in Rochester, NY. At a young age he was inspired by Rochester based artist Ramon Santiago, whose theatrical style can at times be seen in Seccombe’s work. “I want to have a dialogue with the audience” says Seccombe of his new work, which invites the viewer in by conveying thought and emotion with a delicate sense of intimacy by Looking In.
